For the second time in three nights the Atlanta Hawks and Philadelphia 76ers will square off in the city of Brotherly Love. Philadelphia waxed Atlanta 127-83 on Wednesday, and will look to hand the Hawks a third straight loss on Friday (April 30th, 7 pm ET).

Team Spread Moneyline at FanDuel Total
Atlanta Hawks +9.0 (-110)  +340 OFF
Philadelphia 76ers -9.0 (-110)  -430 OFF

Odds as of April 29th.

The 76ers opened up as 9-point favorites, in a game without a total at the moment. The reason an over/under has yet to be posted is due to the questionable health of Atlanta superstar Trae Young, who’s missed the last four games with an ankle injury, more on that later.

Philly Smashes Atlanta

Wednesday’s meeting between these two teams was over almost as quickly as it started. Philadelphia built a 20-point lead after the opening quarter, and extended it to as much as 46, before cruising to a lopsided victory.

They shot 53.9% from the floor, led by Seth Curry’s 20 points, while Tobias Harris and Joel Embiid added 17 a piece. The victory clinched a playoff spot for the Sixers, as they joined Brooklyn as the only teams in the East who’ve punched their ticket to the postseason.

John Collins paced the Hawks with 21 points, but Atlanta was stymied by Philly’s defense all night. The 76ers held the Hawks to 33.3% from the floor, while racking up 12 steals, 8 blocks and forcing 15 turnovers.

Philadelphia dished out 12 more assists and scored  21 more fast break points, en route to their biggest blowout win of the year. They’ve now won two straight, by a combined total of 75 points.

Will Trae Be Ready In Time?

Young made Hawks fans everywhere hold their breath when he went down last week clutching his ankle in New York. Fortunately, x-rays came back negative and the diagnosis was a grade 2 lateral sprain. He’s expected to return to action once the swelling goes down, and that could be as soon as Friday.

Young reportedly has a 50-50 chance to play against the 76ers, but the point spread suggests otherwise. Atlanta was a 9.5-point underdog in Philly on Wednesday, and seeing how the current line for Friday’s game is only half a point lower, it’s hard to imagine that Young will be out there.

Side With the Sixers

Four of the Hawks’ nine games without Young this season have resulted in losses of 14 or more points, including each of their last two contests. Prior to losing in Philly, they fell by 16 to Detroit, and Friday is shaping up to be another long night.

The 76ers enter play with the third most home wins in the NBA, and have done a decent job at covering the spread in the process. They’re 18-12-1 ATS at home, and 25-19-2 overall as a favorite this season. Atlanta meanwhile, is 16-18 away from home, and has dropped three straight on the road.

The point spread suggests Young won’t be playing and given that Philly is currently at full strength it’s hard to envision a scenario that doesn’t result in a double-digit win for the 76ers.
