Philadelphia vs Atlanta Probable Pitchers

Philadelphia wouldn’t want anyone else on the mound for such a pivotal matchup. Wheeler has been brilliant all year for this team, going 12-8 with a 2.82 ERA in 26 regular season starts. He struck out 163 batters in 153 innings while walking just 33.

Wheeler also pitched in Game 1 of the Wild Card against the Cards and dominated, tossing six innings of scoreless baseball and allowing a mere two hits. He’s very familiar with the Braves too, compiling a 2.70 ERA in three starts in 2022 against them.

Wheeler vs Wright Stats

Zack Wheeler
VS
Kyle Wright
12-7 Record 21-5
2.82 ERA 3.19
153 Innings Pitched 180.1
163 Strikeouts 174
33 BB 53

As you can see by the record, Wright barely lost at all this season, going 21-5. His ERA was an impressive 3.19 in 30 total starts, striking out 174 in 180.1 innings. The right-hander didn’t pitch in the Wild Card and comes into this outing on 11 days of rest, last taking the mound on October 1st versus the Mets.

In that start, Wright gave up two earned runs in five innings. He’s allowed two runs in each of his last three appearances and has pitched well against the Phils in 22′, collecting a 2.84 ERA in three outings.

Phillies Are Rolling

Philadelphia carried the momentum from St. Louis right into Atlanta on Tuesday, with the lineup firing on all cylinders. The Phils scored six runs in the first four innings, getting to Fried very early. Nick Castellanos and Bryce Harper both went 3 for 5, with the Castellanos also driving in three runs. He also made a potential game-saving catch in the bottom of the ninth after Matt Olson cut the deficit to one run with a three-run homer.

On the mound, Ranger Suarez kept Philly in this contest with 3.1 innings of one-run baseball, but he struggled with command, surrendering five walks. Six bullpen arms came in after his departure, including starter Zach Eflin, who had a rocky ninth but ultimately held onto the lead.

Braves Looking to Bounce Back

No one expected Atlanta’s top arm to get hit around, but the offense almost made up for it with a late push. Olson came up big with a three-run shot, but all in all, the Braves lineup left struggled to capitalize on their opportunities, stranding nine runners.

Travis D’Arnaud led the way at the dish, going 2 for 5 with a double and a home run. Ronald Acuna was also 3 for 4. They almost always provide Wright with run support, which is a good sign ahead of Game 2.

Phillies vs Braves Game 2 Prediction

The Braves were 55-26 at home during the regular season and always tend to show up and deliver when Wright is on the mound. I’m liking Atlanta here to even up the series before it heads back to Philadelphia.

Pick: Braves moneyline (-125)
