The history of NFL prime time football all started with a 1970 MNF game between the Cleveland Browns (10-5, 9-5-1 ATS) and New York Jets (6-9, 5-9-1 ATS). That game was also played in Cleveland and the Browns won big, by a 31-21 verdict. As the same two clubs meet once more under the lights in the Week 17 TNF game, it’s the hometown Browns who are again expected to win by a wide margin in the Jets vs Browns odds.

Oddsmakers are setting Cleveland as 7.5-point home favorites in the Jets vs Browns odds. Cleveland is 5-0 against the spread in the club’s past five home games.

Public Bettors Down With Browns

The current NFL public betting splits are solidly supporting a Cleveland crushing of the Jets. It’s the Browns who are drawing 85% of spread handle and 81% of moneyline handle.

The Jets, though, are 9-2 straight up in the last 11 games facing the Browns, including a 4-1 SU mark in the last five meetings in Cleveland. Of late, though, New York is 1-7 ATS in their past eight games. The Browns are 6-2 SU and ATS over their last eight games.

The total of 34.5 points is the fifth straight game under 40 points for the Jets. Eight of Cleveland’s last nine games also show sub-40 point totals. Four of the last five Browns games have gone over.

In the odds to win Super Bowl, Cleveland is the 10th betting choice with a line of +4000.  The Browns are at a betting line of +1800 to win the AFC North in the NFL divisional odds.

No Flack for Jets from Flacco

A year ago, he was the QB for the New York Jets. This week, he’ll be seeking to dismantle them. And right now, believe it or not, Joe Flacco is the NFL’s hottest QB.

He’s 3-1 since coming aboard in Cleveland to replace injured starter Deshaun Watson. During that time, Flacco has thrown for 10 TDs and 1,307 yards, the most of any NFL QB over that span.

One of four QBs to start a game for Cleveland this season, Flacco was 1-8 over three seasons as the Jets starter. But he insists this week’s game isn’t about revenge, that he actually enjoyed his stint with the Jets.

Wilson Out for Jets

Both the Browns and Jets are dealing with some significant injury concerns heading into this game. Jets QB1 Zach Wilson remains in concussion protocol and won’t be cleared in time to start against Cleveland.

That being the case, Trevor Siemian gets the starting nod. Like Flacco in Cleveland, Siemian will be the fourth QB to start a game for the Jets this season.

The Browns list 21 players on their injury report this week. They put backup QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson on IR this week. PJ Walker will serve as Flacco’s understudy. Kicker Dustin Hopkins (hamstring) is out. He’s leading the NFL with 33 field goals and is 8-for-8 from 50+ yards.

Former Detroit Lions K Riley Patterson was signed to handle placement duties this week. Punter Corey Bojorquez has a quad injury. Veteran Matt Haack was signed as insurance at the position.

Jets vs Browns Prediction

Cleveland has plenty to play for in this game. The Browns are well-positioned to earn the #5 in the AFC in the NFL playoff bracket. And they’ve been utterly dominant at home this season.

Cleveland is 7-1 both SU and ATS at home during the 2023 campaign.

Jets vs Browns Picks: Browns -7.5 (-105)
